Reactions to Spam
We now have the ability to mark messages in the Community as spam. We had 4(?) spam messages today that I for one (and at least one other commuity member) reported as spam something like 12h ago. But those messages are still there in the Community, so I have to ask - what are the procedures in the Community for dealing with spam and promptly removing it? Yes I understand the mods are all volunteers but …

Precisely.

I also flagged them as Spam early this morning US Eastern time.
Responding to those messages, as some have done, only encourages the spammers. It's best to flag and ignore. Maybe the mod(s) who can handle the deletion aren't on duty today. I believe that only a few of the mods have the ability to remove a full message.

The spams appear to have been removed - many thanks to the mods for this.

The option to report spam is now missing from the Flag dialog box, and we have more spam this evening.

You can still report spam by using the flag option at the bottom of each post/comment. This brings the post to the attention of the moderators and we will get it taken care of as soon as we can.

Yes, @Ashlee C. I did that. I was merely commenting on Adrian's post about the new format to the Flag dialog which has now disappeared.

Thanks @Ashlee C. - the new (now removed) option had suggested to me that the FS Community had introduced a new method for dealing with spam that would prioritise that over other moderator alerts. Hence my surprise when I used it at the slow reaction to that spam.
Frankly I don't mind if the process for dealing with spam is automatically based on content or manually driven so long as it works promptly. (And I have to say that I don't remember seeing much in the way of spam before).

I too notified spam some days ago now, and was surprised how long it took to take it down. This in my view has two negative impacts for FamilySearch. It is a dis-incentive for a Community member to report spam again, if it is felt it does not have a high priority.
The second impact is possibly a legal one, what process is in place for objectionable spam to be taken down straight away? Years ago I belonged to a Forum (UK based) which was hit by pornographic type spam. Not only was it unpleasant for the Forum members, it was stated by a Forum member that it was illegal to have this content showing and the Forum could have legal action taken against it by authorities.
