The second sentence is more consistent with the merging process.

    Proof vs evidence. Both have such a wide range of meaning that maybe neither are all that great in this situation.

    Maybe if not to wordy something like this would get the point across:

    "However, you should evaluate all the data, notes, and sources on both profiles to confirm that they represent the same person before merging them. Pay particular attention to alert notes, if any, on the profiles."
