Hi Judith Chat is the only option within Family Search to contact another user. If the other user made their email and/or phone number public, you will see that on the Chat option. If not, then just complete the chat and send it.

Is there a timeline one should expect a response to a Chat? I have submitted a couple of requests to different people and both are a month old with no response.

No, there's no timeline. As with email or other communications, the person you send a chat to may respond quickly, slowly, or never at all. My own experience is that more than half the people I contact via chat don't ever respond.

One thing that might help you have some idea as to whether to expect a reply or not is to note the dates on the data that user has entered or edited. If it was yesterday, you'll have a greater chance of hearing from the person than if it was ten years ago. For example, my mother's name as a contributor is all over our relatives in Family Tree and she uploaded a ton of memories in 2018. Because of a question about the chat feature someone else posted, I tried sending a message to her a few days ago. The message went through just fine with no indication of any problem. However, I'm not really expecting to ever get a response because she passed away in 2019.
