imageUpcoming Changes to FamilySearch Indexing

Over the past 15 years, many of the genealogical discoveries available on FamilySearch.org have been made possible thanks to the efforts of volunteers. Volunteers helped with earlier projects such as name extraction and microfiche, online projects such as manually typing indexes for digital images of records, and, more recently, reviewing automated indexes that were first created by a computer.

    Thank you for the information, I am a Stake Indexing Leader and I have volunteers that love the work they have done, I feel that they will still be able to feel good about their service .

    Dear Family Search.

    In the past many years I have been involved with Extraction, UDE, Beta testing for Indexing and then Indexing. I still maintain that the IT guys or whoever keeps making the changes to all of Family Search, should do some serious research and Indexing before doing all of the changes. The current Activities offered I have already been doing. So far I can see some of the minor problems with AI. Hopefully you will continue to offer challenging activities for all of us EX Indexers! I do appreciate all that is being done to help researchers find their families. Thanks for all you do.

    Sincerely, Janet Campbell

    More information on previously indexed statistics would be helpful for training and updating indexers in my ward and stake.

    Thank you

    @janet campbell2

    Thank you for your years of volunteer service, Janet! Our volunteers play a significant role in the indexing and Get Involved efforts and are needed more than ever. AI is helping to speed up the rate at which records can be made available to our patrons. We recognize that it's not perfect, and that is yet another reason we need our awesome volunteers - to review information that AI has identified and make corrections that may be needed. Our Engineering teams have spent much time and continue to improve the AI tools. Your corrections help to improve the AI tools as well.

    Thank you for trying the new Get Involved review activities. There are more Get Involved activities coming, including more that will need careful analysis and critical thinking skills. Keep watching the Get Involved Opportunities for more volunteer activities!

    @TannerJeannetteRae1

    Thank you, Jeanette, to you and the volunteers you work with for the amazing efforts you have done! We still need our volunteers to continue with the Get Involved review activities and new activities to come. All of your efforts help make records available for people to find their family names, connect them to the Family Tree, improve accuracy of the Family Tree.

    Thank you for trying the new Get Involved review activities. There are more Get Involved activities coming, including more that will need careful analysis and critical thinking skills. Keep watching the Get Involved Opportunities for more volunteer activities!

    @gloriajeannelson1

    Gloria, thank you for your suggestion. You can find information on statistics and other updates in the FamilySearch Help and Learning Center: KA 29142 (How is Indexing Changing?). For those Church leaders with access, an additional Reports tab will show (see KA 23187) on the Get Involved Opportunities pages. (The Family History Activities Report is also available to Church leaders.) Additionally, you can find your previously indexed records totals on the Get Involved Opportunities page and your Get Involved review activities totals on the My Impact page.

    Just saw this after posting a question somewhere here (🙂) - trying to help some after illness for few years and trying to familiarize myself. On the QUICK NAME REVIEW - a little confusing…..

    1. Several times I found nothing highlighted - how do we mark that?

    2. Sometimes will see "Dr." or a title of the person. How is that marked, since Dr. is not the name of the person but just telling you he is a doctor — NOT A NAME. Instructions very unclear — "Not a real person".

    Thanks.
