Rejected Memory Attachment

I received notice an attachment had been rejected but the link you sent with the rejection will not open:

https://familysearch.org/photos/artifacts/209376441

The recent attachments I've made have been a will, obituaries and funeral notices from a newspaper. I don't know why they would be rejected.

Please provide a working link and justification for rejection of the attachment.

Respectfully,

Julie Fagan

Memories in FamilySearch are initially checked by an A.I. program which is still open to many mistakes. I checked the rejection you listed and it appears to be a computer error. Have you tried resubmitting it? Many times resubmitting is all that is required. It is amazing what a day can make in FamilySearch issues.

Another possibility is you may need to remove FamilySearch cookies from your computer. You can do that by going to the following link, Resetting FamilySearch cookies.

Are you using Chrome?. This is the recommended I.E. If so have you tried others like Microsoft Edge? (or many others). Hope you have already been able to upload your memory since making this post, but if not please respond and we will look further, I am sure someone in the community will have an answer for you.

Did you respond to the email informing you of the rejection? Usually, all I have to do is reply, asking for human review, and the item is cleared within a few hours.

Again…The link sent with the rejection will not open so I have no information as to which attachment was rejected.

You don't need a link. Just reply to the email, asking for human review.

I've received over 50 rejection emails since March 18, 2025. I think the system is flagging all my Newspaper.com obituaries because they have a URL link at the top of page back to Newspapers.com. The link in the notification email DOES NOT WORK. The only way I am able to find my "rejected" memories is to open Memories > Gallery and review them all looking for those blacked out with a Restricted symbol on them. The thought of trying to "fix" all of these is just too overwhelming. I don't understand why we can add a link to a Source but not include one on a PDF document under Memories.

@Debbie Soreff said "I don't understand why we can add a link to a Source but not include one on a PDF document under Memories."

If FamilySearch were to allow links in PDF files, then there is the risk that people could include all sorts of links to sites that are problematic: spam, violence, pornography, etc.

I imagine that it's simpler to disallow links in PDFs than to take on the burden of reviewing every link in every PDF (there could be hundreds or more in a single file).

@FaganJulieBrown1 Once a memory has been rejected, only the submitter can see it. If you are not signed in to FamilySearch when you click the link, it will not recognize you as the submitter and you will not be able to see the image or follow the link. You can still reply to the email and request your memory to be reviewed or clarification as to the specific reason it was rejected.

@Debbie Soreff On the FamilySearch Upload Guidelines and Policies #4 says

Content MAY NOT contain images, depictions, or descriptions of:

    4. Links to outside websites (i.e. no URLs).

If the URL links to a record that will source information about this persons, it can be added as a source on the record in Family Tree which will allow users to go to the actual record to find this information. For Newspapers.com you can share interesting stories that you find using the links to your public clippings. These links can be used when creating sources.

Were you able to fix the problem you were having with the information provided to you?

One thing that I notice is that unless I am logged in on the same account for which the item was uploaded with - I will get a "file not found" error - when clicking on the email link.
(even though the link itself is perfectly valid)

I use multiple accounts - and often have this scenario - if I happen to be logged on to an account that is not the same account as the item in question.

so be sure you are logged on
    and with the correct account.
otherwise you can face exactly what you discuss.
