New Memories Gallery: selecting "Previous Version" causes side-effects

Like many users, I was somewhat curious about the new Memory Gallery format. I tried it briefly, but preferring the previous version, clicked on the "Previous Version" button. Shortly afterwards, I noticed that certain links weren't working (see embedded screenshot). However, I didn't make the association until recently.

As a workaround to restore the previous link behaviour, I suggest that you delete all FamilySearch website specific cookies from your browser (Safari in my case).

Another problem is that the Reorder feature - a feature that I use routinely - has been removed in the new version. This is a non-starter in my view.

    Thanks @AmberML1.

    If someone from technical support wishes to contact me, I believe that I can share a fair understanding of the the malfunctioning links issue.

    I would also like to reiterate my concern about the apparent removal of the Reorder feature from the prototype of the new Memory Gallery. I imagine that I'm not alone in making good use of the reorder capability. Many of my existing Albums order the memories in specific sequences rather being ordered by their respective upload date and time.

    @Sloan.David

    I just wanted to send you a quick update. Regarding the Albums link (shown in you image above).

    This problem has now been rectified. If you click on an album (while in the Memory Viewer), you are now taken to the correct album.

    Regarding the "Reorder" function. . . many have shared concerns about the removal of this function. The Engineers are aware. This function might be able to return in a future update. For now, we ask for patience. Thank you.

    Thanks very much for the update @AmberML1.

    I'll definitely be very disappointed if the Reorder feature is not restored. I'll also verify the fix for the album link issue which was more of an inconvenience than a serious issue.

    UPDATE: The fix for the album link issue is not working for me. Perhaps the roll-out of the update version hasn't reached me yet.

    @AmberML1

    The possible fix for the album link issue is not working in my environment (macOS 15.4, Safari 18.4 / Firefox 137.0).

    I was wondering if you are still experiencing problems with Album links?

    Hi Amber,

    Thanks for the follow-up.

    The link from a memory to the album (or multiple albums) that contains it seems to be working. However, I am still anxiously waiting for the Reorder feature to be restored. I have invested a lot of time and energy ordering memories in many of my albums.

    To make matters even worse, searching memories using Topic Tags no longer seems to be working,

    Improvements to the site are, of course, welcome but removing existing capabilities is likely to frustrate many longtime users like myself.

    @Sloan.David

    Thanks for writing back.

    I'm glad the album link is working. Also, the Engineers are currently working on returning the "Reorder" Function—this should be available soon. Once it returns, so should your custom order. Thank you for your patience—yes, it is very challenging to have functions removed! Again, thank you for your patience.

    I will, however, check on that Topic Tag problem. Let me get back to you about that one. Thanks again!

    Hi Amber,

    I appreciate that you capitalized "engineers" especially since I am a member of that profession. :-)

    Best Regards,

    David

    @Sloan.David

    Regarding the "Topic Tag" issue….

    As you have already noticed, the "Find" page of Memories is not currently active. So, yes, you are unfortunately unable to search the Topic Tags.

    The Engineers now this is a problem, but they ask for patience as they try and "upgrade to improved technology for a better user experience."

    The "Find" page will return. (Much like the Reorder function in the Albums.) Yes, it is unfortunate that these functions are currently unavailable, but the Engineers are working hard to return them as soon as possible.

    Thanks again!
