Undoing a bad merge
I'm not sure if Undo is part of the Improved Merge, or if it's a separate function. However, I have a suggestion for Undoing a merge. I watched the "Protect Your Research" at Roots Tech, and this was not mentioned.
When I have to undo a merge (when it's too late to use the "Undo"), I first Restore the deleted person. Then I pull up EVERY source and look at it to determine which person it goes to. (This can take a long time if there are dozens of sources, but it usually is not too bad.)
It seems that it would be fairly simple to make an Undo function that helps the user sort through the sources. That way you don't have unmerged people with extraneous sources (or duplicate sources) when you're done.

Sounds good to me. Just as an aside, when you are sorting through the sources do you make use of the View Merge screen? I assume it is still available even after the deleted person is restored. It will show which sources were on each profile just prior to the merge. That might speed up your work:
This post merge analysis is very useful. Having worked with it a fair amount now is why I'd like the merge screen to basically look identical with just the addition of the radio buttons to set what is in the third column. (And all the warnings, of course.)

I do use the Merge Analysis (now that it's available), but I've found that sources attached to the wrong person are often the reason the bad merge happened in the first place. 😕

We are investigating ways to better undo messes from merges and restore people after merges. But it's a very complicated problem, and we want to get it right and not cause more messes.0
