2 part last names on city directory, how do I index them?

The last name seems to be broken into 2 words: 'Van Allen Orville B' is how it is displayed on the record, and has several names afterward. If I record the last name as 'Van Allen', then the next few last names would be 'Van Allen', and if I'm wrong, the name could still be found on the search and people could look into why there is an 'Allen' with their 'Van'. However, if I record the last name as just 'Van' and I'm wrong, then the search for 'Van Allen' would be missing something on several names.

directories are usually alphabetical. Do the previous names start with V? Also, please provide the batch code found in brackets to the right of the project title to allow us to be more helpful

Well, the other previous names did start with a V, I was more talking about whether or not I should include both 'Van' and 'Allen'. I knew I should at the very least include 'Van'.
