Be wary of the profile for Pietro on the FS tree, as it appears that at least 2 men of that name have been conflated.

The 1920 census cited by sc woz is for a man born about the same time but in Italy, arriving about 1907.

Good morning. I found lots of census records for Pietro. One full of good information is the 1920 Census.

It might good to start looking for physical records in Brooklyn by going to FamilySearch Wiki for New York and you can start looking at possible church or government records, including cemetery records, obits, marriages etc. It does not appear much on the family was digitized besides census records. There may be much more if we dig deeper into other family members. Hopefully other members will find you some help with their expertise.

You may find some help with a free virtual Genealogy session at FamilySearch.

I tried several of the resources besides FamilySearch that are available but there a lot more free and paid for resources available. Take a look at the FamilySearch Solutions Gallery for some additional ideas. I have also had a lot of good information recently using some of the FamilySearch Labs, especially using the AI research assistant.

@IMA777 Be aware that records in this country could be Peter, the son of John and Mary, although his parents did use their Italian names on his birth record, and of course on immigration/naturalization records. Also. use wild cards (*) in searches for the surname. De Maio was likely misspelled often.

I'm not sure. The birth cert # 12117 b 11/1/1890 may be my family. If I could find a death cert for him.

Also, a letter I received from Holy Cross has a Petro DeMaio interred at 11 days old 12/9/1896. He is buried with other people, I know for sure are family. Section St Michael, Range 022, Grave 068. The registered owner was John De Maio, my great grandfather. He was interred there 6/17/1917, name spelt John DeMay.

I can't find a birth or death record for the Petro.

I did receive lots of helpful info, but the Petro who died 11 days old is still a mystery.
