"After conducting your initial search, you will find filters in a panel at the top of the page. The filters appear as light-gray buttons labeled with the filter types."

After I conduct my initial search, I get:

I don't see any light-grey buttons. Am I doing something wrong?

The Help Articles are new and, I was told, still being updated. You'll see the filter bubbles if you search by Keyword, but not if you search by Place.
