This is not a question, buy rather just a comment to help someone who is seriously confused … would hate to see them waste so much valuable time, considering their dedication …
Of course, I have no way to contact them, but someone in admin should be able to help … these folks are indexing the batch provided, but are also indexing the reference images … ALL of them.
Example: I proofing this batch they did now …
US—City Directories, 1903–1935 [Part M] [MQPR-S76] which lists 59 indexable names but with the reference images, they have indexed 547 entries.
Can someone can help them … please ?

Reference images are not indexed. Those images belong to the next batch(es).
The only time a reference image is used is when the document spans two images. There is the instruction on how to use the reference images under Project Instructions/General Indexing Guidelines/What to Do When Records Span 2 Images or to View Additional Images. If they are not sure where to find the instructions, there is a link at the very bottom of every entry or the last icon on the toolbar.
An example of using the reference image is when there is a post-1940 Petition for Naturalization. The record date for the Petition is on the back of the Petition; Petitions filed before 1940 have everything on the front of the document. If the last image in the batch is the Petition, they will use the +1 Reference Image to retrieve the record date. On the post-1940 Petitions, the Oath is under the Affidavit of Witness Section. If that is on the +1 Reference Image, it is not indexed, as the Oath belongs to the next batch. The record date for the Petition is the most recent date from the Witness Section.1 -
Thank you, but I'm not the one indexing the Reference images … I read and fully understand the directions. I was asking is if someone in admin or anyone who has access to Who is doing What, that they might be able to reach out to these people and help them understand so they don't waste untold hours doing irrelevant entries.
Now, again, can someone reach out to them and help THEM … NOT ME ?

Why can't reviewers work collaboratively with indexers and mentor new ones? Surely it would improve everyone's experience.

It wasn't direct reviewer/indexer collaboration, but way back when there was desktop indexing, arbitrators reviewed batches, then would tell you what you did wrong. It was jettisoned when indexing went web-only.

Yes, we were told what we did wrong. It was particularly annoying when the reviewer didn't follow the project instructions.

Better for both sides if reviewers and indexers had a channel allowing them to discuss the decisions made on a batch in an equal way (in the same way as they can for Family Tree changes, but probably with time limits). I shall post an Idea on this.
