I haven't been able to replicate this problem.
I can see my Memories in my Gallery. I can also see Memories from a Person's page.
Can you check again? If you are still having this problem, please provide more information (browser type / website or app / etc).

Added photos to memories on a person's record using iPhone. Added a label to the photos. After completing the entry, the photo and label both show up on the person's record when viewed on the iPhone. When viewed on the person's record online, and when viewed on my gallery online and gallery on the iPhone, only the photo label shows up with only a black place holder for photo.

I followed the directions you posted using my own iPhone. However, I was able to view the photos that I uploaded (through the Memories app) on both the Memories app as well as online in my Gallery and from the person page memories I tagged the image to. I can't see a noticeable problem.
My only thought is that you might have uploaded an image that is not supported by FamilySearch. But this is only a guess. (FamilySearch accepts .jpg .tif .bmp . png .pdf).
Please let me know if you continue to have problems viewing the memory you uploaded. I might need more details, though. Thanks for your patience as we try to solve this issue.
