I was browsing through the memories for a profile. I came across a memory (a story) that had apparently been uploaded erroneously by a user about three years ago.

  1. When I use the FS website, the memory does not appear in the Memories tab for the profile. It is accessible if I navigate from one memory to another by using the arrow buttons to the right of the memory viewer's title information. Furthermore, it does appear in the Memories tab in the Android Family Tree mobile app.
  2. In the profile's changelog, I can see an entry where the story was attached, and I can display the memory by clicking the "Show Story" link there. Its status is "DETACHED" but I cannot see any changelog entry that shows that it was detached.

The memory is not relevant to the profile person. It isn't genealogical data in any sense, but it does contain personal information about the user. I have messaged the user but I haven't had a response. I'm not going to identify the profile or user here.

Why is the "detached" story visible by browsing from one memory to another in the web app, and in the Family Tree mobile app memories tab? Has there been an issue with the detaching of memories from a profile where they were not completely detached and no changelog entry was created?

What you're seeing on the Family Tree app is simply the result of the caching the app does to improve performance and reduce data usage. It's a temporary situation — once you refresh the Memories tab for that person in the app, you'll see that detached memory disappear from that person's Memories tab. Or if you visit that Memories tab after the cache expires (a week later), you'll also see that detached memory disappear from the tab.

@Alan E. Brown, this does not appear to be a caching issue. It's been about six weeks since I first noticed the problem and it persists. I deliberately waited for several weeks before trying to comment again; in fact, this discussion has just been through a cycle of being closed, flagged (by me), and subsequently reopened.

To add to the information in my original post, in the web application, the Memories tab has a count of 18 memories in its caption but only 17 memories are displayed in that tab. When I navigate through the whole set of memories, I count 18 (including the extraneous one). In the Android Family Tree app, all 18 are visible in the Memories tab.
