RE: US-City Directories, 1866-1940 [Part A] [MQFF-ZCR]
When one comes upon a business, should it be indexed when it is not around the borders or in a box? Examples in this batch: Katonah Engine Co, No. 1; Katonah Lighting Co.
I could not find a direction in the three examples given.
Appreciate your assistance as I anticipate doing many city directory batches.

Going by the old Directories project in 2021, you will index a company if it's Surnames only. A company that's named "Smith & Jones" will be indexed, with the Given Name marked blank on both entries. A company that's named "The Ad Book" will not be indexed.
