Do I fill in blank items if not in record like Sex and Surname

I am indexing Catholic church records for Zimbabwe and none have the Sex indicated I have been marking them blank since it is not indicated even though usually by the given name it can be determined.

Also the often do not include the surname of the child (I am thinking that it is because it is the same as the father). I have been marking this blank since it was not indicated and sometimes I have seen the names to be different that the father so it seems that I should not assume???

Thanx

Looking at the general guidelines I found the answer to my send question...do not assume....

Also I think the same applies to the Sex...don't assume the a name indicates the sex so blank for Sex on many of these documents and blank for a surname if the surname is blank on the form.

    Steven Oak,

If you remember that the researcher who was able to find the record because of your work will be able to see those things and make their own judgments concerning those matters it might help you feel better about marking them blank.

I have worried about the same things.🙂
