Dutch Reformed Batch [MQ9P-874] for example. Many names like that here. There are no instructions about this issue. I think it looks to weird to write it as is.

From the Given Names entry of the General Indexing Guidelines in the Project Instructions: "Type names as they were written. Do not correct misspellings or expand abbreviations unless directed otherwise in the project instructions." The project instructions do not direct otherwise, so you would index "Elzbt" as "Elzbt".

What I'm actually seeing, though, is abbreviations indicated with a sort of ditto mark below a superscript 'a'.

I'm not sure whether to index that as "Christina Marga Susana" or as "Christina Marg Susan". I'm not sure whether trying to clarify it with punctuation would work: does it allow equal signs or quote marks? Marg=a and Susan"a seem closest to what's there (given that there's no "a above double quote" or "a above equal sign" in Unicode, that I can find), but I suspect the indexing software would drop the non-letter characters at the first chance it got.

The superscript is part of the abbreviation and should be included with the name. The superscript is usually the last letter of the name. Thos (for Thomas) , Alexr (for Alexander), etc. We don't worry about the quotation marks or line under the superscripted letter. Those are simply what the scribe used. It's not part of the spelling.

I have been doing the correct thing for a long while. Just wanted to confirm it. Thank you. I will correct the last batch before submitting it.
