Dates: tried to put 14/09/1910

I am not happy that although I am not completely new on Fsmily Search, I started to add my fathers birthdate to his particulars and tried to
put 14/09/1910 only to find that is not acceptable. Why is that and what is the correct method. My family is not American. We are British.

@Ann Miller - I just tried to enter exactly that date in FamilySearch FamilyTree and what happened was that it offered "14 September 1910" in response - I clicked on the offered text and that was accepted OK. Even when I entered the ambiguous "10/03/1955", the system offered me "10 March 1955" or "3 October 1955" to choose from.
I'm not sure, therefore, how the system appeared to be telling you that "14/09/1910" was unacceptable. It will always try to standardise stuff (dates and places) so that dates, in particular, aren't ambiguous and conform to a standard format. As part of that process it will take your input, display it back to you in red, and show the offered suggestions underneath for you to choose from.

@Ann Miller, in addition to Adrian's method, which chooses the background ("standard" or "standardized") value to also be the displayed value, you can choose to keep the format with all numbers and slashes as the display. Simply click the reddish text at the top of the drop-down to keep your typing, associating it with the top choice in the drop-down for the background value.
As you can see, you can do this even when your typed format is ambiguous.
If you had meant that as March 10, then you would click the little arrow to the right of the "standard date" and choose the other option from the drop-down.
Heck, you can even leave off the century from the year, and FS's algorithm will do its best to offer the correct standard.
So, like Adrian, I'm puzzled by what you could have encountered to cause you to conclude that "14/09/1910" is "not acceptable".
