Changes made in new software were to deter data mining?

As I see census, indexes and other records deteriorate in their quality, I have assumed it was to deter data mining by unwelcomed entities.

This is understandable. However, is there any way a person can work around some of the issues? I don't mind taking extra steps but 'in the old days' I could find a census image, see an index, find family members together and make corrections. None of that seems to be true anymore except see the image. Example below.

Your example is an 1850 US census from Alabama. In 1850, the US census did not link family members. Households are grouped, and that may be a nuclear family but it may be a group of individuals living together.

That's not a change to how FamilySearch presents the records. It's how the census was compiled.
