I have a swedish ancestor, with records I cannot read. I need help understanding his records.

My aunt, Doris Parker Pike, discovered a Johnson family bible in 1984 from cousins, and was able to spend many hours at the SLC FHC with help from the Scandinavian desk to get about 6 generations of my great-grandfather's family in Sweden, Kalmar area.

I recently received a message from a person in Sweden, stating that my great-great-grandfather, Carl Johan Jonsson, 2S83-N1Y, fathered a child, with her ancestor, two years before he married. She has sent me records to prove this connection. Her ancestor was Maria Jonsdotter GVC7-L4T, and her child was Carl Johan Carlsson, GQPL-4G8.

I have disconnected my Carl Johan Jonsson from her ancestor and asked that I be able to research the records to definitively rule out whether he was the father or not. If he truly was the father of this child, I will merge him to her ancestor, Maria Jonsdotter. But, I would like some help to translate these records, to see if there is any identifying info that can identify who the father is.

Thank you, Penni Pike Bodily

The birth record of Carl Johan, GQPL-4G8 (https://sok.riksarkivet.se/bildvisning/A0010895_00043#?c=&m=&s=&cv=42&xywh=1814%2C1554%2C3717%2C2660) is rather blurry and hard to read:

    What I think it says:

Carl Johan (illegitimate) [born:] 28. [baptized:] 4. Nov. [age of mother] 24 [years]

Illegitimate son of maidservant Maria Jonsdotter in Ödebo(?).

As father of the child was reported farmhand Carl Johan Jonsson in Ödebo

My comment: Carl Johan Jonsson is a quite common name and without additional information it will be difficult to clearly identify this Carl Johan Jonsson with your ancestor.

Thank you Ulrich Neitzel for translating the christening record for me. I have added that info into the source record for others to see. I also had help with the household examination record and have concluded that the child does indeed belong to my great-great-grandfather. Thank you!

Post script- The two records that this person sent me, are attached to the child, Carl Johan Carlsson, GQPL-4G8. One is a FS record already indexed, the child's christening record. But there might be more on the record that might identify if the father is my Carl Johan Jonsson or a different one. And the other record is not indexed. Penni Pike Bodily
