Laptop access to Premium websites
Can the browser extension be installed on a patron’s laptop for use while he is in the FHC? He sent this link: https://www.familysearch.org/centers/premium-sites/
I have the FS extension installed on each of the FHC computers in the center on all browsers, but I have also been telling patrons that they cannot access Premium websites from their own laptops. I read the article as access at the center only. Am I missing something? Has access changed with the move to 192. IP address (Liahona)? And, can it be accessed from outside the building?

There has been no change in the policy! The installation of the browser extension to personal devices has not been authorized for The North America Area (The United States and Canada).
Currently, there is no authorized use of the browser extension on personal devices only on Family History Department-owned devices (computers). That means Patrons should NOT install the Browser Extension on their personal devices.
Currently, there is no authorized access to premium Web sites or restricted records except through the church security system. We have no plans or legal method of honoring the record contracts or the Premium website agreements without controlling access by requiring a connection to the installed firewalls. Those devices not connected to our firewalls cannot connect to the premium websites or view restricted records. So, in short, they can't access it at home or other locations without our security system.

Ken Richins, are you going to reverse this answer considering what you said on this other thread?

No, what was posted was correct when posted for both statements and there is no reason to try and change the past to fit the present.

So if I understand what you are saying, patrons should not download the browser extension for Premium sites on their personal laptops or chrome books, even if they are in the Family History Center utilizing their own laptops and signed in on the church internet service with the Liahona password, or can they? If that is true then how does the Bring Your Own Device (BYOD) program work, that I was advised of yesterday while on the phone with FamilySearch? Just need some clarification. Thank you:).

Great! Is there going to be an official announcement from FamilySearch indicating this new service for patrons if they are using their own laptops at the FamilySearch Center with instructions and explanations on how to do this along with the restrictions?

Stake Presidents are being sent emails in February 2023 with the information about this option and how to administer the program in their Stakes and Wards as authorized.

What is the extension name? That would be helpful.
Also, we had a hard time finding the extension at the Chrome Web store, Extension option. A search for "family Search" did not find it, but a search for "Premium content" it was at the top.
It was a search with a space between family and search that came up with nothing, so the search needs to be with no space.

FamilySearch is one word so that would help. Premium Content is a better search term. The extension name varies depending on the browser and version, so we have not attempted to post a name. You can use these links, however, to find the extension. For Firefox fhc.software.ffext and for Chrome fstech.software/gcext
