If there is both an enlistment record and discharge record for the same person, do I index both as 2 different records, or combine info on one page and delete the other as no available info? I find the instructions very confusing, after reading several times.

    Hi @Patricia Capps

It's best to post the Batch Code so someone can look at your batch to give you the most accurate answer. It is at the end of the batch name and starts with an M: US, New York—Military Discharge Records, 1865–1946[MXXX-XXX]

Please post the Batch Code, but I would probably combine them into one entry for that person - per the following citation. And it's the discharge date that they want.

From the What to Remember About This Project section of the Instructions:

    • Do not index stand-alone enlistment records. Index the information found on them only if they accompany an honorable discharge notice, which may require looking at the next few images following the end of a batch.
    • When multiple discharge dates are shown, please index the most recent date.
