Gender or first name initial.

New York Birth Indexes sometime will show the letters F or M. I believe these are for the sex column and not the first name initial. Is that correct? In these cases there appears to be no first name. Just need clarification, please. Thank you, Vickie

    You are correct. F and M are for the sex. You'll leave the given name blank and mark the sex field F or M. From your batch:
