I'm trying to index this batch, but I'm confused about the names.

For example, it states "Edgar A. Coffin, assigned of Isaac Newton" and (on a different line) "Edgar A. Coffin, As. Enoch J. Wilson".

In these cases, would I index Edgar A. Coffin in the Given Names and Surname boxes, or would I index, for example, Isaac Newton (still working on figuring out the last name) in the Given Names and Surname boxes? Or would I index Edgar A. Coffin in the Given Names and Surname boxes and put Isaac Newton in the Other Names boxes?

Thanks!

I think you would be safe to put the "assigns" in the Other name fields because of the instructions in the Field Helps.

"If 2 names were listed in the "Name of Purchaser" or "Name of Entryman" column for the same transaction, index the second given names in this field.Ctrl+B to mark this field blank."

Since an assign is a successor to the land, it would seem they are also in the same transaction.

I think the gentleman is Isaac Newton Ulsh in entry 1 and then Isaac N Ulsh in entry 2. He can be found in Family Tree on several different records.

    Good Luck - tough batch!
