I under stand this is a very broad question, but I have asked my parents about how to read this handwriting, and they can't tell. I would appreciate assistance in this. Thanks community!

Experience. If you're new to handwritten script, look at the handwriting helps. Older handwriting often makes letters differently from modern. For instance, in older Spanish, an r looks like an x. In older Spanish, they abbreviate A LOT. Pick an easy project to get started in handwritten records

Look for obvious words to help learn a given scribe's idiosyncrasies. Realize than things vary a lot between scribes. Just be thankful they had someone who could write back then.
