Hi! I'm relatively new to indexing material and I just started a batch of marriage records. The field was asking for "principals" first and last names, DOB, and other information. The field help didn't help me understand who the principal is. Who is it?

If this question has already been asked, my apologies. I searched and couldn't find anything

A principal is a primary person in a record. For example, in a marriage record, the groom and bride are principals. The parents of the wedding couple or their witnesses are not principals.
