He was a student at Michigan College of Mining and Technology (later Michigan Technological University) . Name - John Robert Atkinson, went by Bob or JR, born 1918 in South Bend, Indiana. Nothing comes up when I search. How would I find the school's part of the census. Thank you

I've done a quick search in the 1940 census for John Robert Atkinson. You are correct, there does not seem to be such a person in that census in the State of Michigan. I am wondering if he was considered part of the family still at home, but when I looked in the Indiana census, he does not appear there either. Unfortunately, people get missed by census takers. Perhaps this is what happened to him.
