An ancestor with a first name Alexandri - should I leave that as is, or change it to Alexander?

An ancestor with a first name Alexandri - should I leave that as is, or change it to Alexander?

This was the mid to late 1500's in Wuerttemberg, Germany.

    Was 'Alexandri' used in the genitive case? If so, change it to Alexander.

    I would adopt the name as it appears in the documents

    I suspect that this is a father's name--but not having seen the document or transcription thereof, cannot tell for sure-- and the sentence probably reads (translated) "X son of Alexandri." This would be genitive case form; the nominative, or base form, being 'Alexander.' In documents other than this one, the form 'Alexander' will appear. There is no doubt of that.

    Also, in life, this person would have been called 'Alexander', never 'Alexandri.'
