Short Answer: That depends on what you mean by correct a historical record!

Technically, you cannot "Correct" a 'Historical' record - it is what it is.

.

Whereas, IF, you are referring to a "Transcription Error" on an "Indexed" record; THEN, that is another matter ...

.

On some records, "Indexed" by 'FamilySearch', certain 'things' on those Records can be corrected, if they were transcribed incorrectly.

.

But, generally, such is not available for Records "Indexed" other than by 'FamilySearch'.

.

In the latter case, you would need to get onto the organisation that "Indexed" the Record, in the first instance.

.

I have done so on a number of occasions; and, had the "Indexes" corrected [eg. 'General Registry Office' (GRO) of 'England and Wales'; and, "FindMyPast.co.uk" (FindMyPast.com); and, the like].

But ...

That said ...

.

IF, the ERROR/MISTAKE in in the actual "Image" of the Record; THEN, that is something that CANNOT be "Changed"/"Corrected" - it is what it is.

.

In the latter case, just attach the "Source" and ADD a 'Rider' regarding the ERROR/MISTAKE, in the 'Title' of the "Source" and somewhere in the 'Citation' and "Reason Statement" (in "Family Tree" of 'FamilySearch").
