Answered--Transcription help for 1699 notarial record
Hi,
This is a testement of Sara Robberts Nelson widow of Jan Henricksz Groen (3rd husband) from July 1699 in Leiden. There are two different styles of handwriting used on the second page. I could use help with the transcription of even a couple of lines from each type by someone who can speak Dutch to help me better identify the letters. I am fairly competent at secretary hand in English. I am finding it harder to transcribe in Dutch! Missing a letter or two seems to change a word's meaning or renders the word untranslatable. Also, both myself and google translate (not the best tool for this) can not recognize 17th century phonetic spellings of words.
I believe I can see three nieces shown. Beginning in the center of the 2nd page they are: Catharina Haneman, Glende Roflij? and a Jannetge ?. I am hoping this testament helps find more extended family.
Any suggestions about who I can contact to hire for 17th century transcriptions would also be helpful! I've contacted several genealogists/companies. I have not found one willing to do that kind of work yet.
Thanks!
Susan

Susan, Catharina is mentioned as "hare nichte" = niece , and the one that reads Glende or Glande is mentioned as nephew"hare neeff"(old spellings), today i would write it as haar neef, or haar nicht.
Glende was a given name not a surname mostly foreign origin. If read as Glande i do not know it(i'm a Belgian), =>but Roblij would probably be written today as Boflij, and was a valid name in that days, altough rare.Apparently the name dissolves away to the colony's of the Dutch, and the new world.
Janne(ke)(tje). & Sara are both mentioned as nieces , written as "bijde hare nichten"
There is a dedicated forum for help in these matters, altough it is not a forum for geneologists, but for
Old-Dutch and Old Flemish language related issue's.Most of the members master the English language very well , are very polite and helpfull, and also very clever.
I would suggest to start a new posting there, under "nieuw onderwerp"-After you introduced yourself
and the reason of the use of English. In the blue links on their page you can see some of the quality
of the snaps that are posted.
