Finding Ancestors
I am from Kazakhstan and I am trying to find more information on my family. I have some information regarding my parents, but nothing about my grandparents. I have done a lot of basic research and such, but that has yielded no results. what can I do and where can I start? What has helped you find your ancestors in that part of the world?
Thank you so much!

Hi!
Do you have a town in Kazakhstan that they are from? That is helpful to know.
I've helped a few people who were adopted from Kazakhstan, and unfortunately there isn't much online in the way of records. You can try sites like жди меня (https://bpb.opendns.com/b/https/poisk.vid.ru/) which is a Russian site good for adoption. Social media can also actually be very helpful. If you can locate people with your same surname that live in the same location (more helpful if it's a smaller town rather than a large city), there's a chance they may be relatives. Facebook and the Russian social media VKontakte (https://vk.com/?lang=en) are some good places to start. Forum boards like those you can find on https://vgd.ru/ can also be very helpful. Here are their pages for research in Kazakhstan: https://forum.vgd.ru/352/. Reading through the comments, and asking your own questions there can help you glean some information and connect with other people that might be researching in similar locations or surnames.
A lot of these websites are in Russian, but if you use Google Chrome, you can right click anywhere on the page and choose translate to English to help you navigate it. Also use Google Translate to help you translate any questions or messages you may want to send.
Hope this helps! Research in this area of the world (especially this recent) can be tough, so I wish you the best of luck!
