Why are the image indicies in given German record so sporadic?
In a sampling of 120 consecutive images (70-189) of the Petschow Parish Register (102415736), only 37.5% of the images include an image index, and those that do exist are random - for instance, 3 images are indexed and then 1, 3 or more are not. Malchow is another such parish, and there are more.

@Marilyn E. Pope We are so glad you have joined our German community - It is a great place to get help and to help others! We have a lot of talented, experienced participants here.
Be sure to review the links at the top of our community page for some great resources - we add new ones as we find them.
We look forward to hearing from you. Most of the time, it is best to "ask a question" - do this by selecting the arrow to the right of "new discussion". Asking a question allows you to accept the answer or let us know you would like more help. I was able to change this post to a question for you.
I will mark this as a rejected answer as it does not answer your question, it just offers some tips. Thus your post will still show unanswered.
Thanks for being patient as we sometimes must wait for a response to come from a volunteer with the needed skill set. It is always good if you include the identification number of the person in question in Family Search Family Tree so we can see the bigger picture.
We look forward to your comments and questions.
Enjoy today! Cindy Jarvis

It has been my experience that learning how to read German names and dates is extremely valuable. Most of the letters are similar to English. This isn't that hard. When you can read names/dates and you learn how to navigate birth/marriages/death records through FS you won't need to depend on indexing. For example it only takes a few minutes to go through the births for a specific year in a German town and then you know what is available in that year and don't have to depend on indexing which sometimes has mistakes.
