Anyone else Researching in Nigeria?
Hello,
I recently found that I have a fairly high DNA match (97cM), whose parents at least, and maybe he himself, were born in Nigeria. He is black and I have 0% African heritage, so I am now trying to nail down our relationship. Ancestry says that we are 2nd-3rd cousins, with several possible variations.
Anyway, I got into contact with him a week or so ago, and he said he would ask his parents to test as well. I do know exactly which of my lines he matches with, so that is helpful, although it is a SMITH line (sigh), and rural 1800's, which if it wasn't for the high cM would seem to point to slavery somewhere along the line...
Anyway, if you are at all familiar with Nigerian records, I'd love to learn.
Thanks!
Loralee

I don't have any ancestors or DNA in Nigeria, but it is fascinating reading your story. I hope you learn more and get to know your new cousin. Isn't DNA fun 😊
