Misztótfalu/Miszmogyorós, Hungary (Szatmàr county) - Today: Tautii Magheraus, Maramures, Romania
I recently discovered my great-grandmother was born in and was married in Misztótfalu, Hungary. I'm trying to discover more about this town, today called Tautii-Magheraus, in Romania. I always thought she'd been Hungarian (she did moved to Budapest after WW1), however, I have discovered through birth and marriage certificates that she was at least part Romanian. Her father did not speak Hungarian. She was Greek Catholic. I did the usual google searches and on Facebook have"liked" the protestant church of Tautii-Magheraus and have become "friends" with the Greek Catholic church. No one has responded to to my post, except months later the Greek Catholic priest did write to me, but he's since not responded back. I'd like to know more about the village, how the Hungarians and Romanians mixed etc. Is there anyone in this group who's ancestors are also from the town? Any more documents out there?

Dear Monika,
Misztótfalu, as you already know , was a Hungarian village in the Austro Hungarian Monarchy, in County Szatmár. But the Treaty of Trianon, that „closed” the WW1 of 1920 annexed this area to Romania.
The Romanian name of Misztótfalu is Tăuţii de Jos, but it is a part of Miszmogyorós (Tăuti-Magheruş) and belongs to County Maramureș nowadays
The majotity of the population was Hungarian before 1920, but lived a Romanian minority there as well.. This is the reason of the mixture of nationalities in a family.
So, I could maybe help to understand the situation.
Best regards
Éva
