Hello for all in this group.

For many years I have been looking for records of my paternal family.

I found out that my grandfather was probably born in Futak, Novi Sad, South Bačka, Serbia.

Attached is an image of a 1920-1925 baptism certificate.

my grandfather's name was Johan Hie, but in Brazilian immigration they changed the name to João Hi.

Any information will be welcome.

Thank you all.

Futog Catholic records online go to 1895. Do you know whether your ancestors were Catholic or Evangelisches (Protestant)? Just a guide to Hungarian terms; Kerszteltek is Baptisms, Hazasultak is Marriages, Hallottak is Deaths and Anyakönyvek is simply Register. Here is what is on Family Search:

    https://www.familysearch.org/search/catalog/results?count=20&placeId=163227&query=%2Bplace%3A%22Serbia%2C%20Futog%22&subjectsOpen=412495-50

Your next step would be in the Istorijski Arhiv Novi Sad (Historical Archives). During communist days, original church records were taken by the state, and the only versions we have microfilmed are some handwritten copies sent to the archbishopric in Hungary. This is why Catholic records are available, but Protestant records are not. I would recommend contacting the archive directly and asking first about whether they have a Fund (collection) for Catholic or Protestant church books from 1895 to 1925 from Futog:

    "WORK WITH RESEARCHERS

    CONTACT

You can send all your requests to our email address.

State as precisely as possible in the request what information you need as well as the way you want it to be sent to you and our service will respond to you as soon as possible.

    Our email address is arhivns@gmail.com"

While Google Translate is not perfect, I would recommend sending your request in writing over email in both English and Serbian. They can't help you with everything, and I highly recommend traveling there once this is all over, as there is so much information that has not been microfilmed and indexed, especially in this part of the world.
