Trying to find an answer to this problem: Great (x2) grandfather (Jakob Alexander) came from Bavaria. I've got the shop's manifest entry. (1845).

I show him with new wife Harriet in the 1850 census. "married within the last year". 11th ward of New York. No children as yet.

I next find Harriet Alexander in the 1860 census with 3 daughters no husband .13th ward 4th division New York. Did he die about 1855? Youngest daughter is listed as 6 yrs old.

In 1862 I have found the 2 youngest daughters in an orphanage (New York Hebrew Orphan Asylum).

    Did the mother die?

I can find NO records for this period.

I am working from hand scribed notes received from my aunt after she died. Everything on this page has proven out so far. The daughter "Celia" is my great grandmother.

I hope I am in the correct forum. If not can you please direct me? Even a paid genealogist would be welcome.
