Welcome to the new FamilySearch Community platform! It will take us all time to figure out the ins and outs of the community, and the group pages, so here are a few things to help you.
- You must "Join" a group in order to create a discussion (ask a question) and to comment (answer).
- The left side tabs will be your best friends - particularly "My Feeds" and "Groups"
- The group you joined will be in the Group tab
- In the Q and A tab, you will find FamilySearch, but that is the Help Center and is not managed by the FamilySearch Family Tree group. However, our group is linked there on a the main page as a resource.
- Please post your questions by clicking on the blue "New Discussion" tab. There you will have the choice to post a "New Discussion" or "Ask A Question." It is your choice as to what to do. They have the same basic function with a few differences:
- If you "Ask A Question" then when someone answers it your question appears "Answered." You can click on "Yes" or "No" next to "Did This Answer Your Question" when someone commented. When you click "Yes" then "Accepted Answer" will appear. Comments can still be made to the question.
- If you post "New Discussion" then you will not have the option to accept an answer as it is simply a discussion. However, you may still comment.
- Currently you will not get notifications of discussions/questions unless you created the discussion, or you were tagged, or you commented in a discussion.
- To private message people, please click on the "envelope" in the top right corner.
- Group Resource Links along the top of the each group page - please scroll sideways to see everything
- It might be helpful for you to mark as My Feeds this group (and other groups you enjoy) for quick access.
- To get notifications of these: Click your Avatar icon in top right corner, click "Edit Profile," click "Notification Preferences" (click what you want), click "Save Preferences"
