Hi!

I wonder if someone can help me. My father was born i Kavala 1946. He recently past away and i am trying to find out my grandparents names and were thay are buried so i can visit there graves. I also like to find out if i have any relatives. My father was the only child so there are no close relatives but my grandparents had siblings. My fathers surename is Vlatiotis. Is there a place in Kavala were thay have records or can you give me a tip on were to start?

I don't know if records are available for dates this late. If you can prove relationship you may be able to write for records. You will need your father's full name to refine your search.

This link is for material available from Kavala and may be of some help to you:

Toward the bottom of this page there is a link to form letters you can use to write for Greek Records.

    Good luck with your search.

    Good afternoon.

I'm just wondering, have you ever heard from your father of a different spelling of your surname? Maybe Vlasiotis, Vlahiotis or Vlatsiotis? I'm asking, because this suffix -otis in Greek usually hides a name-place.

    • Vlatsiotis possibly mean that he originally comes from the village of Vlasti, in Kozani.
    • Vlahiotis, that could be a Vlach.
    • Vlasiotis that could be from any place named Agios Vlasios.

These are just my first thoughts.

    Have a nice evening
