Hi!

I am looking for online adoption message/bulletin boards where I may post an adoptee's info. Hoping someone else on the same research threads would be or know looking for the same birth family connection. Any family connection is great - the person, parents, siblings, cousins, etc. Any site recommendations for online message boards would be appreciated. Looking for useful sites and ones to stay away from.

What do you all think of posting a "Looking For Someone" ad in local area newspapers where family has been known to live?

I do use city directories, DNA, newspaper articles to look for birth family members. Have one of my relatives am hoping to connect with. Also have six others who have asked for help in finding family. Any suggestions/help is greatly appreciated.

Thank you for your ideas and help. It is greatly appreciated by many.

To me a "Looking For" ad is a shot in the dark, and is very open ended. DNA results allow you to focus on families that have matching DNA, hopefully very close matches! You still need to do traditional research, but can narrow your search. Others, like myself, may be willing to help once you have DNA results to look at.

Having just completed (well a whirlwind year ago that is) a 35 year quest to find my birth father and his other family, I would not invest any $$ in a newspaper ad unless you are looking in a country other than the US and other big ones. There are just too many miles and we are way too mobile a people to bother with that. I can share some steps I took after I had DNA results if that would be helpful.

Patience, perseverance and lots and lots of messaging form the framework for my eventual success.

historically, people would post "looking for" adds in newspapers. Creative keyword searches using google.com, yippy.com, duckduckgo etc may help you find some of those. I have some links somewhere for some of these... ill have to see if i can find them :/
