Many townships / grieveships / villages / hamlets in Northumberland seem to be missing from the list
Historically, rural Northumberland was thinly settled and poor, and therefore the parishes are huge in comparison with most of England. Since the little villages do not show up as parishes (like they do in Essex or Norfolk, for example), they are not on the standard place list. Is there a list you could get that would add them en masse?

I believe you will have to submit these individually. Meanwhile, you can add the full names (including hamlet, etc.) as display names, ensuring they standardise in the name of an existing parish, in the most appropriate format for that point in time.
Over time, many places / locations have become obsolete, so it would be very difficult for anyone (say a FamilySearch staff member) to determine the formats in which they should be created (e.g. without any United Kingdom suffix, if they disappeared before 1801).
