Need help with Germany research. Standardized place name for Hannover, Preußen, Deutschland?
www.familysearch.org/tree/person/details/GHBZ-TCD
This is my first attempt at research in Germany.
Unknown first name WILLKEN has 1865 dates in "Hannover, Preußen, Deutschland".
Attempted to find the standardized place name, however, all options begin with year 1866 (and child was born 1865).
Thanks for any help you can provide.

I was hoping someone with more German experience than me would respond. But it doesn't look like it.
If you go to https://www.familysearch.org/research/places/?focusedId=3246254&searchTypeaheadInputText=hannover&text=hannover
you will see that Hanover, Prussia, Germany (I'm showing English language names) is for 1872 on; it's preceded by Hanover, Prussia for 1866-1872 (I never knew Prussia had annexed Hanover before, so I learn something every day...)
For your period you have 1837-1866 with Hanover, Europe
And for 1814-1837, you have Hanover, United Kingdom
And it's silent on where Hanover was beforehand (The answer may be complicated....)
The 1814-1837 name is quite wrong. Hanover and the UK / Great Britain shared a monarch from George I to William IV (using British names and numbering) but this was a personal union - the governments were entirely separate, the states were entirely separate and Hanover was not in the UK any more than the UK was in Hanover.
In 1837 Victoria succeeded to the throne of the UK and since Hanover operated Salic Law where a woman could not ascend the throne, Victoria could not be Queen of Hanover - instead one of her uncles took the throne of Hanover, breaking the UK / Hanover connection. Presumably this change is why Hanover is altered to Hanover, Europe in 1837. Why it couldn't be Hanover, Germany for 1837-1866 like any other German state, I have no idea.
So the official standard for 1865 Hanover is Hanover, Europe but I did find that I had to type most of that name before it appeared in the drop down list.
Whether you like it is up to you!!
