Thanks for your kindness and help. Can someone help decipher what this Danish Church Record says.
I'm looking for a marriage date of Soren Sorensen Bukkrog and Karen Nielsen of Vinderslev. Their first child was born in 1777. I found 2 entries on this page in the record but I can't decipher much more than their names. Can someone figure out what these records are saying?https://www.sa.dk/ao-soegesider/en/billedviser?epid=17128080#163947,27530763

The first image is the betrothal of Søren of Astrup [possible village in Hinge] and Karen Nielsdatter of Winderslef, the 2nd image is the marriage of the same couple on the 5th of December. We see them in the 1787 census with two children.

Probable match in 1801 census

I believe this is a good possibility for the 1750 christening of Søren Sørensen born in Hinge to Søren Buck-Krogs of Astrup. https://www.sa.dk/ao-soegesider/da/billedviser?bsid=163946#163946,27530666

Thank you Shari for your time. This looks like it matches up with the old pedigree information that my great grandfather had. Thanks for looking at that for me. I have a hard time going through these old parish records and making heads and tails of them since the image is fuzzy and light and the writing and language is so foreign to me. I guess it gets easier with practice and time?

I believe this is the 1801 census for their family. Thanks for taking the time and finding it for me!

@Shari Duce this is great! Thanks for taking the time to look this up. How do I know what the date is on his christening? Can you take the time and write down the Danish on this record and translation if possible? I didn't have this date nor his parents, so this is awesome!

You can find the date at the FamilySearch wiki for Danish Feast Days. https://www.familysearch.org/wiki/en/Denmark:_Moveable_Feast_Days_in_1750: Dom: Exaudi (6p. Pascha) is 10 May was Søren Buch-Krogs child of Astrup christened and called Søren. Jens Jensen's wife of Almtoft, carried the child. Witnesses were Rasmus Pederson's son Peder of Hinge, Christen ? son Lauridz, Poul Rasmmuson's son Rasmus, Niels Jensen's wife of Astrup and Jacob Pederson's wife of Hedehuuset.

I'm happy to help. My eyes are getting old so I do my best, but practice and experience are certainly helpful. Getting to "know" the "hand" of the writer is very important, each person writes in unique ways so after you look at a few entries you get ideas about their standard format and how they form letters. It's a fun challenge each time.

Thank you very much! I'm guessing that the older records don't tell us the name of the mother, other than she is the wife of the father. What is the best way to obtain the name of the mother?

Yes, in earlier time periods the mother is frequently not named. There are various methods to discover who she is. I always look for a marriage record, and every child born to the couple. You never know if the priest might name her. Occasionally the mother might be name in the introductions, or just shown as so and so's wife. Confirmations might name the mother depending on the time period, also death records. Also, you might get a clue from the witnesses of other christenings in the parish. It might say something like Hans Olsen's wife Ane. It takes a little more work.

Thank you for that help. I'm a little confused as to what the father's name of Soren is in this record. Is the record saying that Soren Buck-krogs is the father and the mother is a wife to another man -- Jens Jensen. Or is it saying that Jens Jensen is the father of Soren --- which would make him Soren Jensen, not Sorensen like the person that we are looking for.

Soren Buch-Krogs is the father. Jens Jensens wife of Almtoft carried the child for christening --

Thanks I was understanding it wrong. Thanks for the clarification!
