Robert D. Hales shared these thoughts:
“Countless things can be done within the walls of our homes to strengthen the family. . . I share a few ideas that may help identify the areas that need strengthening in our own families. . .Teach our children the history of our ancestors and of our own family history. . .Build family traditions. Plan and carry out meaningful vacations together, considering our children’s needs, talents, and abilities. Help them create happy memories, improve their talents, and build their feelings of self-worth.” (“Strengthening Families: Our Sacred Duty” by Robert D. Hales; April 1999)
Family Traditions
Family traditions are part of what makes your family different than anyone else’s. The traditions you have may have been passed down and will help shape who you are and who you will become.

As a family, talk about your family traditions. How did they start? Why do you enjoy them? What traditions do you have with your extended family?
Create a new tradition or family holiday.
What traditions do you have or could you create to help your family grow closer to God?
GO DIGITAL
Interview older family members to discover their memories of favorite family traditions. During the interview consider recording these stories using the FamilySearch Memories App.
Upload photos of family traditions to FamilySearch as a Memory and add the story behind the tradition.
