Access to koseki of grandfather's siblings.
My grandfather's koseki indicates he had several siblings who would be grand-uncles and grand-aunts to me. Will municipalities allow me access to their kosekis if I submit the same documents that proved my relationship to my grandfather, i.e., my direct lineal ancestor? Any family members listed in their households would be relevant to me, e.g., cousins, but it is sort of a one-off relationship.

Since you are not a direct relative, please apply using one of the following methods.
1. Have a power of attorney written and bring it with you.
2. Present a copy of the family register that shows the relative relationship with the claimant and related documents that show that the claim is valid.

In other words, if you obtain the prewar Koseki created based on the old family system, you might be able to find information of your grandfather's siblings if they belonged to the same family. FYI that oldest edition of the Koseki is 1886. I hope this will be helpful.
