I thought before looking that it would be the word afdøde (the deceased) but in comparing other entries where I clearly see afdøde I don't think they are the same word. Here are a couple examples of other entries for afdøde. The entry looks like Afgt. to me. The word could be an abbreviation for afgået, meaning departed. But, I find it a bit odd he would use that word where in other cases he used afdøde. Clipboard02Clipboard01

@Shari Duce Thanks so much for your help on this. I didn't see the word afgaet on any of the Danish word lists. I appreciate your expertise. I think that may be the word. Could you please help me with another record. It is again for Marie Catherine Nielsdatter born 29 Mar 1815, but this one is her birth/christening record. I've translated what I could. If you could supply the Danish words that I can't yet read I would appreciate it -- and correct any words I may have wrong please.

I found the image here: https://www.sa.dk/ao-soegesider/en/billedviser?epid=21585058#364349,70610013

This is what I have so far:

    1st column: 29th March

    2nd Column: Marie Katrine

3rd Column: 29 March baptized at home _________ in Church 15 May

4th Column: Cottager Niels Sorensen __________ Maren Jensdatter of Fuglemose

5th Column: (can't read much) _______________ Ane Katrine ___ of Fugelemose. ________ Jensen _____ Knudsen _____ Jensen ________ of Vinderslev.

Again, thanks for any help that you can assist me with 😊

Julie, I am not a native Dane so I too have to work at knowing the words. The first word you asked about is really quite unusual (I've never seen it before) and is an older version of saying "the departed". I asked a Danish friend (a professional) for his thoughts and together that is what we decided.

The first word you asked about is publiceret, meaning published. So the child was christened at home (that's the official date) and then later it was ratified or published in the church on the 15th of May.

Next column Niels Sørensen og hustrue (and wife).

Next column. Baaret af gaardmand (carried by farmer) Gregers Nielsen's wife Ane Katrine Madsdatter.

Witnesses: Mads Jensen, Mads Knudsen, Jacob Jensen all farmers in Vinderslev.

The witnesses can by family, friends or other.
