Eldridge ancestor: Hampshire or Buckinghamshire 1800s?
Hi. My great-grandfather is David Eldridge, who was born in the UK and emigrated to South Africa in the mid-1800s and died there. But we can't verify which one of two candidates was him: One is David Eldridge, christened 14/8/31 at Ellesborough, Buckinghamshire, and the other is David Eldridge born circa 1831 at East Meon, Hampshire. I've hit a brick wall, and none of my relations have any info. Both David Eldridges appear in conflicting family trees. Can anyone suggest a way forward, please? Grateful for any suggestions. Thanks, Russell.

In 1841 the David Eldridge born in Buckinghamshire, England is living in Wycomb registration district.
Here is what appears to be his death record at the age of 15.
ELDRIDGE, DAVID 15

You could send for the death certificate to make sure. If it is the same one, then he has been eliminated.

Further to Carole's comments, on the same page (https://www.familysearch.org/search/record/results?q.givenName=david&q.surname=eldridge&q.residencePlace=england&q.residencePlace.exact=on&q.residenceDate.from=1841&q.residenceDate.to=1841&m.defaultFacets=on&m.queryRequireDefault=on&m.facetNestCollectionInCategory=on&count=20&offset=0) you will find what appears to be the David Eldridge born at East Meon, Hampshire c1831 - see also https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:M79H-4M1. He is till found in the 1851 census - see https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:SGPZ-42Q, but I could not find him in an 1861 census search. So, perhaps it was this individua, who emigrated to South Africa, probably between 1851 and 1861.
