Record of birth or death of Henry Grippin 1818- 1841
Hi!
I am searching for a contemporaneous record that proves that Henry Grippen (b. 1818 Corinth Saratoga New York d. March 11 1841, Hocking, Ohio) at 23 years of age was the son of Isaac Grippen (b. 1791, Albany, New York, d, 1887 New Plymouth, Ohio.) and Lydia (Vanderpoel) Grippen, (b1779, unkown, d. 1844 New Plymouth, Ohio)
this proof of relationship is the last remaining record I need to discover to prove lineage for the Mayflower Society.
I have not be able to find any church records of the marriage of Isaac and Lydia, and no record of the birth of their children in Saratoga area.
Isaac, Lydia, and 3 children, (Henry, Sarah and Ellen) moved to Ohio from Saratoga sometime between 1830 and 1840, according to census records. I have some records that indicate that Isaac was a member of the Presbyterian Church in New Plymouth in 1848. (By this time, Lydia had died and Isaac had remarried Mary Adams, the school teacher.) But I am hoping that there are records of the original family joining that church upon arrival. I haven't been able to find any online.
Henry married Eleanor Bartlett In Oct of 1840 , the daughter of Jessie Bartlett and Mary (Polly ) Hovey in Hocking. His probate records were filed Feb 24, 1842, but do not mention his parents, just his widow, Eleanor.
I am also hoping there might be a newspaper article or a church record that recorded his death. At 23, it might have been newsworthy, especially as he had married into the Bartlett family, who were founders of New Plymouth, and were directly and well documented Descendents of the the Mayflower in their own lineage.
Does anyone have any suggestions for me?
thank you! Jackie
