Several of my family members immigrated about 1832-1844 from Wales to Pennsylvania, United States. Census records and naturalization documents show them as "born Wales".
They often referred to themselves as born in "South Wales" (vs mid- or northern part of Wales).
Can "South Wales" be standardized when we have no city or county name? See: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/South_Wales
At least "South Wales" gives researchers a generalized area in which to research (vs mid- or northern Wales).
Thank you for your consideration.

We apologize for the delay. Most of our team members have working as volunteers at RootsTech in Salt Lake City this week, ending on Saturday. We are away from the office and will return next week.
Your question has been assigned.
Thanks!

Yes, South Wales is a standardized place. We have also added North Wales, West Wales, and Mid Wales which are also sub-regions in Wales, like South Wales. Thank you for your interest in FamilySearch Places.
