Carol, this is a very important question.
Caucasus records are difficult to locate, they are scattered in various locations.
Please give me some detail as to what, when and whom you are seeking. I have a few records that many be of assistance and always seeking others.
Many Germans relocated to the Caucasus for various reasons, the time frame is important.
My mission is to locate and store as many Caucasus records as possible, your support would be appreciated.

Hello, I am looking for information regarding Johann Meister and his parents, siblings. I believe his father was Conrad Meister. I know he had a sister, Agusta. His WWI registration card says he was born 24 Sept 1887 in Gnautau, Russia. 1910 Census states he immigrated to USA in 1902. But I've also seen 1907 and 1910 on other papers. I have not been able to find his name on any ship manifests. His sister Augusta was born in Kaukasus about 1889. She married Christian Weidner. According to the 1910 Census they immigrated to USA in 1904. Looking forward to hearing from you. Thanks, Carol

Carol, I have done additional research for your village of Gnadentau.
The American Historical Society of Germans from Russia (AHSGR.org) benefits from individuals volunteering to be the village coordinator; unfortunately there is no VC for your village.
If you are not already a member of AHSGR I suggest you consider becoming a member to gain access to whatever records the organization may have in possession. Your family surname of Meister may be spelled Meyer or Meier. I have not located a family with daughter Augusta.
Villagers relocated often for various reasons, during research consider searching various locations, villages moved from the Volga to the Kaukasus .
Additional Germans from Russia sources are CVGS, The Center for Volga German Studies. http://cvgs.cu-portland.edu/
The Germans from Russia Heritage Society also has great value, http://www.grhs.org/.
I will continue the search, at the FHL and various locations. Good luck.

Hi DeeHert - I belong to GRHS and they have advised me they don't have any Kaukasus records and aren't aware of any other group that may have. I used to belong to AHSGR but found they did not have the same Black Sea data as GRHS does. Perhaps things have changed as it's been many years since I was an AHSGR member. I thank you for all your help. Carol

Greetings Carol. Most organizations specializing in Germans from Russia research have great value to the majority, unfortunately we the Kaukasus people are a minority. That being said we do have numerous pieces of information, scattered. My goal is to locate and organize this precious information and its important that we share. Everyone has something to contribute. I thank you for speaking up and sharing.
Check the various repositories often, new records are constantly collected, purchased from Russia and donated. Check on-line sites and consider your wording carefully.
We have a troop of talented Russian speaking specialists willing to translate records. Many records are currently being analyzed.
The Germans were meticulous records keepers, I am hopeful that one day soon a bountiful treasure of records will be located, in the mean time we keep searching.
Contacct AHSGR again, when they see the interest exists for Kaukasus records that may motivate increasing that collection.
Thanks for the interest.
