My Chinese great grandpa adopted 3 sons from Fujian. How can I get adoption records from there with

Do you know what year he adopted his sons?
China can be a difficult place to find records, but if you can provide more information about his sons, their ages, names, etc. we may be able to suggest how to find some information.

I don't know the exact year, but around 1900.
Their names are :
郭洙山 guō zhū shān (eldest brother adopted)
郭洙彩 guō zhū cǎi (2nd son adopted),
郭洙擬 guō zhū nǐ(3rd son adopted).
They all emigrated to USA and Canada with the boat people.
Probably if we find immigration records, we can get more information about them.
I don't have the exact year either, but probably around 1980.

@NicolasBILLINGS NicolasBILLINGS where was your great grandfather living when he adopted the 3 children? And what is your grandfathers name?
0 -
Thanks. I don't know if it was before or after his immigration to Hanoi, Vietnam, from Fujian when he adopted the 3 children that were 3 brothers. His name is 郭黄逍 guō huáng xiāo or 郭鍠鏢 guō huáng biāo (the first comes from the grave and the second comes from the family).

Name of my Chinese Family in Fujian Province is KUO and chinese character is 郭.
Name of my great grandpa in Vietnamese is QUACH Hoang Pheot.
His name could be KE Hoang during French Colonization.

if the adoptions were done privately through family and friends, there might not be any record. Do you have any living relatives alive in China that might know? Have you contacted clan houses in Tong An?
0 -
No. How to contact clan houses in Tong’an ? I don’t speak or read Chinese.

Do you know where the men are that your grandfather adopted? Are you trying to locate them? Or are you trying to locate their biological families?
0 -
I do not know where they are except the second son. I wish I could find the 2 other adopted sons or their biological families, know their stories, what they know about adoptive parents in Hanoi and their origins. One of them is alzeimer and the other 2 adopted sons may not be alive anymore.

DNA may help you find these sons, or descendants of these sons. I think DNA could potentially be the easier route to find the missing son or their families.

The language barrier makes it difficult. You can start by searching through Google. Also, baidu is like Google for Chinese, but everything is in the Chinese language. Is there anyone you know live near you that can read Chinese? Or can you hire someone who does read Chinese?

@NicolasBILLINGS NicolasBILLINGS did you get a chance to do any research using any of the links I posted yesterday? I’m curious if they have useful info or not. Also, did you join the @Chinese Genealogy Research 中文家譜尋根 Group and post your question there as well?

The links you posted are pages not found for me but I don't see anything that can help me to go further in my research. I did join the @Chinese Genealogy Research 中文家譜尋根 Group too and posted questions there as well.

Thanks for your help. I need someone in Hanoi to get records in order to find any information that would help me in my project. Do you know someone or any association that is willing to help in genealogy there ?

All started when my Great Grandpa had emigrated from Tong'an district, Fujian to Hanoi in Vietnam around 1900.

Below are two government offices that might be helpful for you to contact. The first one is for Guangdong (Canton) and the second one is for Xia Men, which according to my research includes Tong An. If I were you, I would get in touch with them to see if they can help you.

Thank you @Lina Wakefield for stepping in and helping out with this. You’re correct, I think the language barrier makes it difficult all around. 🤷🏻♀️I dont know🤷🏻♀️ what you said in your last post but I’m sure it’s probably helpful/useful to @NicolasBILLINGS NicolasBILLINGS 😊 ty so much for helping out with this!

Thank you so much for sharing this Ying Chin! It is wonderful to have you involved and willing to share your knowledge with us.

I sent messages to both emails but they were sent back to me with undelivered mail. They said I'm sorry to have to inform you that your message could not
be delivered to one or more recipients.

Looks like a bunch of Quach immigrated from China to Vietnam:

Have you contacted Alain's descendants?

Thank you for your answer and for the link. I hope I will find more information about my family and more descendants. The problem is to get records from Hanoi, Vietnam for more information about my family. The distance, the cost and the language make it difficult for me.

Hmmm... the emails were listed on their websites. If I were you, the next step is to write letters and mail them.

Nicolas, try this website, it is written in English. http://www.eguangzhou.gov.cn/

Ok thank you

Nicholas, my colleague sent an email to both of those addresses, and they went through just fine with no undelivered message. Very curious.
