It is about my Chinese Great Grandpa. His name is 郭黄逍 guō huáng xiāo or 郭鍠鏢 guō huáng biāo for Kuo Hoang Bieu.
About 1870, he was born in Tong'an District, Xiamen, Fujian Province in China.
About 1900, he emigrated from his native village in China to Hanoi, Vietnam.
I've just heard that his brother did the same but I don't have his name.
I have few information about his family in China.
I just know he was poor and worked in one of Chinese grocery store as low level and low paid job. But because of his hard work and good personality, he earned many trusts and respects from his customers. As a result, he later opened his own grocery store and became very successful.
I found someone in the net that could be related to one of my ancestors in Fujian near Tong'an and she is living in Texas now. Her name is a KUO too with the same Chinese character. Her ancestors were from Jinjian, Fujian around 30 miles apart. The name of one of her ancestors from there is Kuo (郭) Ta Shui ( 踏水) born around 1823.

Nicolas, DNA might show if you are related. If you are second cousins, or closer, you will definitely share DNA. If you are more distantly related than second cousins, sometimes this does not show in your DNA. Each generation has approximately half of the DNA from each parent, so this is kind of like if two siblings reach in and grab a handful of M&M's and realize that one of them didn't get any green M&M's. If green represented the Irish ancestors, that sibling didn't get the 'Irish' DNA from an ancestor, so that DNA would no longer match to the Irish family. You can find DNA matches that will show connections with ancestors that go back 5 or 8 or more generations though.
